Water-reducing Admixture

Water reducing agent

Water reducing agent

Matecel® PCW Polycarboxylic acid high-performance water-reducing agent powder has an ultra-high solid content of more than 95%, while the current solid content of carboxylic acid liquid products on the market is only 40%. Matecel PCW Polycarboxylic acid high-performance water-reducing agent powder can be completely dissolved in water, compared with liquid water-reducing agent, the costing of packing and transportation can less more than 3-4 times.

Matecel® MWR is a powdered melamine superplasticizer, which is widely used in cement-based or gypsum-based mortars.

Matecel® Water-reducing Admixture Features:

Matecel® PCW

Matecel®-PCW is recommended to be used in cement-based and gypsum-based mortar, self-leveling mortar, grouting, repair mortar, ready wet-mixed mortar and various concretes.

Matecel® MWR

Matecel®-MWR is especially recommended for use in water-resistance floors, joint fillers, GRG plaster, mold plaster, fair-faced concrete and cement products. The excellent adaptability of MWR to aluminate cement makes it have water reducing effect in cement self-leveling mortar and refractory materials. Matecel-MWR is also widely used in waterproof mortar, oil well cement.

Recommend Dosage:

It needs to be mixed evenly with other dry powder materials. The dosage is 0.5%-2% of the total amount of cementitious materials.

Water-reducing agents, also known as water reducers, are chemical admixtures used in concrete to decrease the amount of water required to achieve a certain level of workability while maintaining the same level of concrete strength. These agents are essential in improving the properties of concrete in both fresh and hardened states.

Key Features of Water-Reducing Agents

Purpose:

▪ Reduce Water Content: They reduce the water-cement ratio in the mix, leading to higher strength and durability of the concrete.

▪ Increase Workability: Improve the flow and ease of placing concrete without adding extra water.

Types:

▪ Normal (Standard) Water Reducers: Typically reduce water content by 5-10%.

▪ Mid-Range Water Reducers: Achieve a reduction in water content of about 10-15%.

▪ High-Range Water Reducers (Superplasticizers): Can reduce water content by 20-30%, offering significantly increased workability.

Chemical Composition:

▪ Lignosulfonates: Commonly used as standard water reducers, derived from wood pulp.

▪ Polycarboxylates: Used in high-range water reducers (superplasticizers), offering better control over the concrete properties.

▪ Naphthalene Sulfonates: Another type of superplasticizer, effective in reducing water content and improving workability.

Mechanism of Action:

▪ Water-reducing agents work by dispersing the cement particles in the concrete mix, which reduces the amount of water needed to coat the particles and achieve the desired consistency.

Applications:

▪ Ready-Mix Concrete: Enhances the performance of concrete in large-scale construction projects.

▪ Precast Concrete: Improves the quality and strength of precast elements.

▪ High-Performance Concrete: Essential in producing concrete with high strength and durability for critical structures like bridges and high-rise buildings.

▪ Concrete with Reinforcement: Helps in producing concrete with better placement around reinforcing bars, reducing voids, and improving bonding.

Benefits:

▪ Improved Strength: Higher compressive strength due to the lower water-cement ratio.

▪ Enhanced Durability: Reduced porosity leads to increased resistance to environmental factors like freeze-thaw cycles, chemical attacks, and corrosion.

▪ Better Workability: Allows for easier placing and finishing of concrete without segregation or bleeding.

Cost Efficiency: Reducing the water content can decrease the overall cost of concrete by lowering the amount of cement needed.

Usage Guidelines:

▪ Dosage: Typically ranges from 0.2% to 2.0% by weight of cement, depending on the type of water reducer and desired properties of the concrete.

▪ Mixing: Can be added during the batching process or directly to the mixer after water has been added. Proper mixing is essential to ensure even distribution throughout the concrete.
